Playa de las Américas

Tenerife's party capital on the south coast, with six beaches, the famous Veronicas Strip and some of the most intense nightlife in the Canary Islands.

Playa de las Américas sits between Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje on Tenerife's south coast. It was one of the first purpose-built resort areas on the island and has grown into the liveliest and loudest of the three. Six beaches line the front, and behind them a dense strip of bars, clubs and restaurants runs day and night. It is the destination of choice for groups and younger travellers who want sun, sea and nightlife together.

What Playa de las Américas is known for

Playa de las Américas is best known for its nightlife, centred on the Veronicas Strip, a stretch of bars and clubs on Avenida Rafael Puig Lluvina that runs until the early hours. The King of Clubs Tramps and Papagayo are among the most famous venues, drawing crowds from across the south coast. The Starcos and Parque de la Paz areas cater to a slightly older or more relaxed crowd, with restaurants and pubs rather than clubs. The beaches are a good mix. Playa de Troya is the liveliest, with beach clubs and watersports. Playa las Vistas stretches nearly a kilometre of golden sand with calm water, just to the east toward Los Cristianos. The Safari and Siam shopping centres near the seafront add to the daytime options. Despite its reputation as a pure party resort, Playa de las Américas is also a practical base for exploring the south and west of Tenerife. Siam Park, Los Gigantes and the road to Masca are all within easy reach.

Experiences and things to do in Playa de las Américas

By day, spend time on Playa de Troya or walk east to the longer, calmer Playa las Vistas. Book a whale watching trip from the nearby Puerto Colón marina or a boat trip to the Los Gigantes cliffs. In the evening, eat along the promenade before working through the bars of the Veronicas Strip or the Starcos area. For something more restful, the Parque de la Paz strip has live music and restaurants at a lower volume.

Travel tips for visiting Playa de las Américas

The Veronicas Strip gets going after midnight and runs until 6am — arrive late or it will feel empty. Playa las Vistas is longer and calmer than Playa de Troya, better for families and those who want a quieter beach. The big-name clubs charge entry, usually including a drink; bars on the strip are free to enter. For whale watching, book a morning tour from Puerto Colón marina a short walk or taxi away. For daytime trips to Los Gigantes or Siam Park, the resort is well connected by bus.
