Porto Cristo
Beach
A seaside town on Mallorca's east coast, best known for the Caves of Drach, their underground lake and a sheltered sandy beach.
Porto Cristo is a relaxed seaside town on the east coast of Mallorca, about an hour from Palma. It grew up around a sheltered natural harbour and was one of the island's first beach resorts. Today most people come to see the Caves of Drach, one of Mallorca's most famous attractions, which sit on the edge of the town.

What Porto Cristo is known for
Porto Cristo is best known for the Caves of Drach, a large cave system on the edge of town. A walking route leads down past floodlit rock formations to Lake Martel, one of the biggest underground lakes in the world, where you can watch a short live classical concert played from boats on the water. Nearby are the Caves of Hams, another set of caves with underground lakes. Above ground, the town is built around a pretty natural harbour lined with traditional Mallorcan llaut boats, with a sandy beach tucked beside it.
Things to do in Porto Cristo
The main thing to do is tour the Caves of Drach and take the little boat trip across Lake Martel. If you want more, the Caves of Hams nearby put on their own light and music show. Back in town, you can relax on the beach, walk around the harbour, or take a boat trip along the coast to quieter coves.

Travel tips for visiting Porto Cristo
Buy tickets for the Caves of Drach in advance, as they sell out in summer and entry is by timed slot. The caves involve a fair number of steps, so wear comfortable shoes. Arrive a little early to get a good seat for the boat concert on Lake Martel. The harbour restaurants are the best spot for a seafood lunch after the caves. Out of season, the town is quiet and the caves are much less crowded.
