Sant Josep de sa Talaia
Rural, Mountain
A quiet, traditional village inland in southwest Ibiza, below the island's highest peak and a gateway to its wild southwest coast.
Sant Josep de sa Talaia, known in Spanish as San José, is a small, traditional village in the southwest of Ibiza, set inland below Sa Talaia, the island's highest peak. Quiet and authentic, with white houses around an old church, it is a calm change from the resorts and a handy base for the wild southwest of the island.

What Sant Josep de sa Talaia is known for
Sant Josep is best known as one of Ibiza's most authentic villages, where local life still goes on around the square and the 18th-century church, the only one on the island with a sundial on its front. It sits at the foot of Sa Talaia, the highest point on Ibiza at 475 metres, which you can climb for views across the whole island. The wider area is the largest municipality on Ibiza and the gateway to its dramatic southwest, including the famous islet of Es Vedrà and the Phoenician site of Sa Caleta, a UNESCO-listed settlement on the coast.
Things to do in Sant Josep de sa Talaia
Start in the village itself: have a coffee or a long lunch in the square by the church and watch local life go by. From here, keen walkers can hike up Sa Talaia, the island's highest peak, for sweeping views, or drive to the cliff-top viewpoints over Es Vedrà at sunset. The village is also the natural base for exploring the quiet southwest, including the ancient site of Sa Caleta.
