San Agustín

A calm, refined beach resort on Gran Canaria's south coast, with a long Blue Flag beach, one of Europe's top thalassotherapy spas and easy access to the island's main attractions.

San Agustín sits between the airport and Playa del Inglés on Gran Canaria's south coast, and it has a quieter, more grown-up feel than both. It has been a resort since the early years of tourism on the island and has long been popular with Scandinavian and German visitors. The beach is long, clean and rarely crowded, and the resort is a good base for the whole south coast.

What [Destination] is known for

San Agustín is best known as one of Gran Canaria's calmest resorts. Its main beach, Playa de San Agustín, stretches for over 600 metres of golden sand with calm, clear water and Blue Flag quality. It is backed by a promenade, the Paseo Costa Canaria, which links the resort all the way to Playa del Inglés in one direction and towards Maspalomas in the other. The beach is almost never crowded, even in high season. The resort is also home to one of Europe's largest thalassotherapy centres, the Thalasso Gloria at the Gloria Palace San Agustín hotel. The centre uses heated seawater for treatments and has been drawing visitors for wellness breaks since it opened in 1998. The mood in San Agustín is deliberately low-key. The evenings are for quiet dinners and promenade strolls rather than clubs. For nightlife, Playa del Inglés is a ten-minute taxi ride away, and the Maspalomas dunes are a similar distance in the other direction.

Things to do in [Destination]

Spend time on the long, calm beach and walk the Paseo Costa Canaria promenade, which connects east to Playa del Inglés and west toward Maspalomas. Book a morning at the Thalasso Gloria for a serious wellness experience with seawater thermal circuits and treatments. Snorkelling and diving are good at the beach, particularly around the rocky Playa Las Burras. In the evenings, eat at one of the seafood restaurants on the promenade and watch the sunset over the water.
