Costa Teguise
Costa Teguise
A resort shaped by César Manrique on Lanzarote's east coast, with four beaches and the best windsurfing on the island.
Costa Teguise sits on the east coast of Lanzarote, about 10km north of Arrecife. Built in the 1970s with Manrique's involvement, its white buildings, volcanic stone and green woodwork give it a cleaner look than many Canarian resorts. The resort centres on Playa de las Cucharas, where the water sports activity concentrates, and a promenade linking four beaches.

What [Destination] is known for
Costa Teguise is best known for windsurfing and its family-friendly atmosphere. Playa de las Cucharas is one of the top windsurfing spots in the Canary Islands, hosting the PWA World Windsurfing Tour in June. The bay creates flat water close to shore for beginners and stronger winds further out, so all levels share the same beach. Kitesurfing, paddleboarding and diving are also available. The Pueblo Marinero, designed by Manrique, is the resort's social hub in the evenings, with restaurants, bars and a Friday afternoon market. Costa Teguise is a good base for Lanzarote's north. Jameos del Agua, Cueva de los Verdes and the Mirador del Río are all within 30 minutes by car.

Things to do in [Destination]
If you enjoy windsurfing or kitesurfing, Playa de las Cucharas is one of the best learning beaches in the Canaries — calm water near the shore builds progressively into open-sea conditions further out. If you prefer a slower day, the four beaches connect along a flat promenade that is easy to walk between. For an evening out, the Pueblo Marinero fills up after sunset and has a more considered atmosphere than most resort strips.

Food and drink in [Destination]
The restaurants along the promenade and around Pueblo Marinero cover most tastes and budgets. For local food, the smaller restaurants away from the main strip serve better papas arrugadas and fresher fish at lower prices.

Travel tips for visiting [Destination]
Beginners should windsurf in the morning when conditions are calmer — the trade winds strengthen in the afternoon. The Pueblo Marinero Friday market is a good low-key browse for local crafts. Jameos del Agua, Cueva de los Verdes and Mirador del Río can be done in one long day trip heading north. Costa Teguise is quieter than Puerto del Carmen, which suits families and those who want earlier nights. For surfing on bigger waves, Famara beach is about 30 minutes north by car.
