Port de Sóller is a seaside resort set around a near-circular bay on the northwest coast of Mallorca, ringed by the Tramuntana mountains. Its sheltered, calm water and sandy beaches make it popular with families. The historic tram from Sóller, about 4km inland, runs down to the seafront, making the two easy to combine on one trip.
What Port de Sóller is known for
Port de Sóller is best known for its setting, a wide horseshoe bay almost enclosed by mountains, with two sandy beaches and a long seafront promenade of cafes and restaurants. The calm, shallow water makes it one of the more family-friendly resorts on the northwest coast, which has few easy beaches. The vintage tram from Sóller trundles right along the front, and from the harbour you can take boat trips along the dramatic Tramuntana coast to places like Sa Calobra and the Torrent de Pareis. Walks lead up to the Cap Gros lighthouse for views back over the bay.

Experiences and things to do in Port de Sóller
Spend the day on the beach and the promenade, then ride the tram into Sóller and back for the experience. From the marina, boat trips run along the coast to the cove of Sa Calobra and the mouth of the Torrent de Pareis gorge, some of the most dramatic scenery on the island. For a good walk, follow the path up to the Cap Gros lighthouse, especially fine at sunset.

Best time to visit Port de Sóller
May, June and September bring warm swimming weather and a calmer bay than peak summer, when the beachfront and tram fill up. Winters are quieter still, with cooler seas and fewer open restaurants along the front.
Getting to Port de Sóller and around
Port de Sóller is on the northwest coast, about 35km from Palma. The most enjoyable way to arrive is the vintage train from Palma to Sóller, then the tram down to the port. By car, the Tramuntana tunnel speeds up the drive. The nearest airport is Palma (PMI). The bay is easy to get around on foot.

Travel tips for visiting Port de Sóller
The bay is sheltered and shallow, which makes it good for families and for swimming. Take the tram into Sóller at least once; it runs along the seafront and up through the orange groves. Boat trips to Sa Calobra leave from the marina and are a popular way to see the coast. The walk to the Cap Gros lighthouse is a favourite spot for sunset. Late spring and early autumn are warm and much quieter than midsummer.
