Binibèquer Vell

A photogenic white village of narrow lanes and arches on Menorca's south coast, built to look like an old fishing village.

Binibeca Vell, usually just called Binibeca, is a small white village on the south coast of Menorca, about 8km from Maó. Although it looks like an ancient fishing village, it was actually built in the 1960s and 1970s to that design. The result is a charming maze of white houses, arches and narrow lanes, with quiet beaches and coves close by.

What [Destination] is known for

Binibeca is best known for the beauty of its white village. An architect designed it in the 1960s and 1970s to copy a traditional Menorcan fishing village, with around 165 white houses, wooden balconies and a tangle of shaded alleys that all seem to lead back to the same small square and harbour. It is one of the most photographed places on the island. Because people live here, signs ask visitors to keep quiet and respect the calm. A short walk away is Binibeca beach, a sheltered stretch of pale sand with shallow, clear water, along with several rocky coves that are good for snorkelling.

Things to do in [Destination]

The main thing to do is wander the white lanes of the old village, camera in hand, ideally early in the morning before the crowds arrive. Stop for a coffee or a seafood lunch, and look out over the boats from the little harbour. When you are ready for the sea, walk to Binibeca beach for a swim, or follow the coast path to quieter coves like Cala Torret for some snorkelling.

Food and drink in [Destination]

Binibeca has a handful of restaurants and tapas bars tucked among its white lanes and along the seafront. Fresh fish and seafood are the things to order, and a glass of pomada, the local mix of gin and lemonade, makes a good way to end the day.
