La Marina

A quiet beach community on the Costa Blanca south of Santa Pola, known for long dune-backed sands, pine forest and a large weekly market.

La Marina sits on the Costa Blanca coast between Santa Pola and Guardamar, part of the Elche municipality. It is a quiet, mostly residential beach community with a large international population. The draw is the coastline: several kilometres of wide sandy beaches backed by pine forest and dunes, much calmer than the bigger resorts nearby.

What La Marina is known for

La Marina is best known for its beaches and its weekly market. The coast here is a long stretch of golden sand backed by protected pine forest and dunes, part of an undeveloped section of the Elche coastline. The water is shallow and the beaches are quieter than those in Santa Pola or Torrevieja, which makes them popular with families. The La Marina market, held weekly, is one of the largest on this part of the coast and draws visitors from across the area. The community itself is calm and low-rise, with a strong international presence, and works best as a base for a relaxed beach holiday rather than a lively resort stay.

Experiences and things to do in La Marina

If you enjoy quiet beaches, spend a morning on the dune-backed sands south of the village, where the pine forest gives shade and the water stays shallow a long way out. If you like browsing, the weekly La Marina market is one of the biggest in the area, good for local produce and crafts. For a longer walk, follow the coast north towards the protected dunes and pine woods that run up to Guardamar.

Best time to visit La Marina

Late spring and early autumn are the best times, with warm weather and quiet beaches. Summer is the liveliest season, when the holiday community fills up and the market is busiest. Winters are mild, and the resident international population keeps the village from emptying out.

Getting to La Marina and around

La Marina is about 30km from Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC), roughly 25 to 30 minutes by car. It sits just off the N-332 coast road between Santa Pola and Guardamar. There is no train, so a car is the easiest way to get here and to explore the surrounding coast.

Travel tips for visiting La Marina

The beaches south of the village are the quietest, backed by pine forest and dunes. The weekly market is one of the largest on this stretch of coast, worth timing your visit around. A car is useful, as public transport is limited and the bigger towns are a short drive away. The pine forests offer welcome shade on hot summer days. The shallow, calm water makes the beaches a good choice for families with young children.
