Es Caló de Sant Agustí

A tiny old fishing village on Formentera's north coast, with a pretty harbour, fresh fish restaurants and a historic cobbled coastal path.

Es Caló de Sant Agustí is a tiny fishing village on the north coast of Formentera, at the foot of the La Mola plateau. It is one of the oldest settlements on the island, built around a small natural harbour where wooden boat houses still shelter the local boats. Quiet and unspoilt, it is a lovely place to slow right down.

What [Destination] is known for

Es Caló is best known for its picture-perfect little harbour and its seafood. The traditional boat houses around the water, protected as part of the island's heritage, give the village its old fishing character. Beside the harbour are two small coves with a mix of sand and rock, where the clear water is good for swimming and snorkelling. Es Caló is also home to some of the best fish restaurants on Formentera. From the edge of the village begins the Camí de Sa Pujada, an old cobbled path, sometimes called the Roman road, that climbs the cliffs to La Mola with wide views along the way.

Things to do in [Destination]

Most visits to Es Caló revolve around the harbour and the sea. Spend a slow morning swimming and snorkelling off the rocks, then settle in for a long lunch of fresh fish by the water. The big walk here is the Camí de Sa Pujada, the historic cobbled path up to La Mola, which takes around ninety minutes there and back and rewards you with sweeping island views. It is a calm, gentle place, ideal for doing very little.

Travel tips for visiting [Destination]

Es Caló is tiny, so come for its calm, its harbour and its fish rather than for nightlife. Book a table in summer, as the well-known fish restaurants fill up quickly. The Camí de Sa Pujada is a lovely, fairly gentle walk, but wear good shoes for the cobbles. The rocky coves are great for snorkelling in clear, shallow water. Parking is limited, so arrive early or come by bike or scooter.
